Activity Overview

Mill City Museum stands in the ruins of the Washburn A-Mill, which at one time was the largest flour mill in the world. It also sits on the banks of the Mississippi River and aims to educate visitors about the history of the flour industry, the River and the city of Minneapolis. It does this through hands-on, interactive activities for kids and adults, historical players who can tell you about the Mill, detailed exhibits, tours and films.

Things to Do

  • Admission to the museum includes a multi-media show about the history of the Flour industry, a self guided tour through the museum's exhibits and a trip up to their ninth-floor Observation Deck where you can look out over St. Anthony's Falls and the Mississippi River.
  • Also included in the entrance cost is a film entitled "Minneapolis in 19 Minutes Flat". This film, written by and starring Kevin Kling, details the history and the culture of the city from its beginnings right through to the present day.
  • The Museum also runs guided riverfront tours where you can learn about the mighty Mississippi.
  • The Mill holds regular events such as cooking classes, their very own Oktober Fest celebrations, various mill tours and Christmas specials. Check out the website of the Minnesota Historical society for a full list of upcoming events.
