Activity Overview

Located on the campus of Washington University the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum focuses on modern and contemporary art. Entrance is free meaning everyone can enjoy their permanent exhibitions and their regularly rotating special exhibitions. The Museum also plays host to various educational programs for children and adults. Both public and private tours of the exhibition spaces are available.

Things to Do

• The Museum's permanent collection consists mostly of artworks from the 20th Century. They focus on modernist painters from the turn of the century up to today's contemporary artists.
• Fans of contemporary art will find plenty to enjoy with prominent artists such as Frank Stella, Damien Hirst, Fairfield Porter and many more on display.
• The third Saturday of every month is Scavenger Saturdays for Families. As part of this activity children and their parents will have to put their detective and problem solving skills to the test as they get to the bottom of a self-guided hunt organized by the Museum.
• Once you have completed the task successfully you will be given a take home, art making activity kit for your child!

Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum Insider Tips

• A guide with directions to other non-profit visual arts institutions around St. Louis is provided by the Museum on their website.
• The Museum is closed on Tuesdays and on certain holidays throughout the year.
• Visitors can use metered parking along nearby Brookings Drive and also at a parking lot to the east of the Museum. The cost is $1 an hour during weekdays. Parking is free here after 6 pm on Friday and throughout the entire day on Saturdays and Sundays.
