Activity Overview
The Maxwell Museum of Anthropology may be small in size but when it comes to the quality of the exhibits shown here, it is at par, could even be better, than the bigger ones. The museum is home to an extensive collection gathered from different continents but its main emphasis is on the history of the Native Americans in the Southwest. You'll learn a lot of things and it's all for free.
Things to Do
- Take the family for an anthropological weekend at the museum from Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10AM to 4PM. Catch the permanent displays featuring the Ancestor Exhibit, where kids can get acquainted with "Lucy" and the rest of humanity's ancestors, and People of the Southwest Exhibit, containing artifacts on excavations, information about anthropologists, a pottery collection, plus hands-on activities for the kids. The museum offers plenty of information for you to learn; keep on reading the labels to find out interesting facts.
- Visit the the other two galleries showcasing temporary exhibits. To know which exhibits are on display, visit the museum's site here.
- Purchase souvenirs such as handcrafted jewelry, carvings, and pottery works. There are items great for children too such as educational books and toys.
