Activity Overview
Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) is located in a complex of 19th-century factory buildings connected by ramps and passageways. From the time that the structures were built in late 1700s until 1985, the complex served as a manufacturing site, a cloth printing site (Arnold Print Works), and an electronics plant under the Sprague Electric Company. In 1986, after Sprague closed its doors, the place was converted to a space to exhibit large works of contemporary art that could not fit traditional gallery displays.
Things to Do
- Visit the entire sprawling space filled with numerous ongoing exhibitions showcasing contemporary art in many different forms. See larger-than-life paintings, sculptures from different mediums, installation art, and wall prints of varying shapes, sizes, pattern, and color.
- If you are visiting with your child, don't forget to go to Kidspace - an interactive exhibit filled with activities especially designed for the kids, teens, and their families.
- Watch live performances of music, dance, and theater. Attend film festivals. Schedule of events are posted in the museum's website.
- Enjoy casual dining at Lickety Spit or call for a reservation at Gramercy Bistro. Lickety Spit is open during museum hours and during performance events. Gramercy Bistro serves contemporary cuisine for lunch/dinner complete with table service.
- Find fun and functional souvenirs, books, and plenty of other cool things at Hardware, the museum shop.

- If you are going with a group of more than 10 persons, call the museum in advance to reserve and to avail of special group rates.
