Activity Overview

Mary Baker Eddy was an American author, poet, and religious leader. The library was founded as a tribute to her, an empowered woman of the 19th century. The library is housed in the same building as The Christian Science Publishing Society. Christian Science is the religion founded by Eddy herself.

Things to Do

  • The first thing you will see when you get inside the library is the Hall of Ideas. The place features a fountain centerpiece made of cast glass and a bronze sculpture. Quotes from great thinkers are projected as bubbling out of the fountain unto the screens.
  • Experience the Mapparium, a three-story globe made from stained glass. The globe depicts how the world looked like in 1935. Guests will also be amazed with the acoustics of the room.
  • The Quest Gallery focuses on the life in the nineteenth century. Browse the photos, documents, and artifacts related to the creation and publishing of Eddy's work, the textbook Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
  • Participate in programs and events hosted by the library. Check the library's website for the schedule and details.
  • If you want to know more about Mary Baker Eddy's life, her works, and the Christian Science religion, visit the Research and References Services located at the fourth floor of the building.
