LSU Rural life museum gives an insight into the life of the rural Louisiana, it features interesting exhibits, buildings, and educational resources. Come with your family and explore the plantation style of the 19th century, the exhibit barn, historic buildings, and thousands of artifacts representing the everyday life of the rural Louisiana. The museum is a source of outdoor recreation and learning for the families and students. The Burden family donated the 430 acres of land that is now the LSU rural life museum. The unique outdoor museum is located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and is open daily.

Things to Do

• Families can take self guided or docent led tours of the LSU Rural life museum, see the artifacts, historic buildings and architecture of the rural Louisiana back in the 19th century and 20th century.
• See 30 unique historic buildings from the bygone days, see households, plantations, materials and artifacts used everyday by the people of the rural Louisiana.
• Visit 25 acres of beautiful Windrush Gardens, see beautiful plants and flowers including camellia and azaleas, the gardens were created by Steele Burden taking inspiration from the European gardens.
• Children would love to see miniature buildings, buggies, horse carriages, homes, live reenactments, and the chapel. Families should visit during the Christmas and Easter festivities.
• Snacks are not sold inside the museum, you can't bring a picnic either.
• Buy children's toys and souvenirs from the gift shop.
