Hiking up to the Lower Eagle Falls in Emerald Bay State Park is a scenic and exhilarating experience, it is one of the most visited water falls in South Lake Tahoe. There are lower and upper Eagle water falls, the hike to the water falls is easy to moderate. The hiking trip gives beautiful views of lake Tahoe and the Sierra valley. The hiking trail is accessible May through September.

Things to Do

  • Pack your lunch and drinks and take a 2 miles round trip to the Lower Eagle falls, the trail is accessed through highway 89 in South Lake Tahoe.
  • The trail is a popular spot for hiking, parking can be very congested and difficult to find in peak Summer hours.
  • You will have to attain a wilderness permit to be able to hike the trail, the trail can be steep and ascending at many points.
  • It is best to hike the trail early in the morning, noon hours can be overcrowded.
  • The views on the trail are breathtaking, there are waterfalls, lush green mountains, tall pine trees and wildlife here and there.
  • Bring camera to capture beautiful scenery and wear good walking shoes.
