Activity Overview
More than 1,100 different types of animals reside inside a 133-acre site more famously known as the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens. The zoo is divided into different sections such as the Rainforest of the Americas, The LAIR, and Sea Life Cliffs.
Things to Do
- Teach the kids how rainforests serve as home to many species. The Rainforest of the Americas exhibit showcases the layers of a rainforests, its inhabitants, and the importance of the ecosystem. See the animals that represent the inhabitants of each layer such as monkeys, birds, and fish species.
- Get to know more about the gentle giants. Elephants of Asia focuses on educating guests about the plight of elephants. Inside this zoo section, visit the Elephant Plaza and learn about their history, then continue on to the Elephant Barn, and the Elephant Care and habitat area.
- See more than 60 species of amphibians, invertebrates, and reptiles at The LAIR. The exhibit's background is painted with different types of environment that the species thrive in. Watch iguanas, snakes, and salamanders slither their way at the Damp Forest and see turtles, scorpions, and rattlesnakes at The Desert LAIR. Don't forget to visit the Crocodile Swamp too!
- Spot your child's favorite mammals such as giraffes, horses, koalas, tigers, lions, and bears. Watch the kids be amazed as they observe the animals' behavior.
- Don't miss out on the wide selection of plants inside the zoo. The zoo has an officially recognized botanical collection.
