Activity Overview
The Lone Star Flight Museum is housed in an aircraft hangar and gives the public the opportunity to see classic restored airplanes in all their glory. The Museum also has exhibits which explain the history of these planes and others like them along with other various photographs and contemporary artifacts applying to these magnificent planes.
Things to Do
- There is a wide variety of planes here that date from World War II through to the Vietnam War that are sure to delight history fans. Even people lacking in much of a knowledge will be interested as many of these planes are extremely impressive when see close up.
- The Texas Aviation Hall of Fame is the official Hall of Fame for Texas' greatest flying sons. It has pictures and explanations of the achievements of each individual inductee along with various special exhibitions that rotate throughout the year.
- The Lone Star Flight Museum offers the incredible opportunity to get first hand experience of what it feels like to fly in a classic World War II era airplane. Their Flight Experience programs give you the opportunity to fly up in a PT-17 Stearman Bi-Plane, a T-6 Texan Trainer or a T-41 Mescalero Trainer.
Lone Star Flight Museum Insider Tips
- The Museum suffered bad damage during Hurricane Ike in 2008. The storm severely damaged the museum's Texas Aviation Hall of Fame and badly damaged other parts of their building and collection too. To protect against the possibility of future destruction the Museum is currently constructing its new home at Ellington Field in the Clear Lake area. They hope to open the doors of their new facility in spring 2016.
