Activity Overview

Little Talbot Island State Park is a 2,500-acre state park that includes the entirety of Little Talbot Island, which is located just outside of Jacksonville, Florida. This beautiful nature area is the perfect place for your family to spend the weekend doing outdoor activities. It provides beaches, trails for hiking and cycling, an interpretive exhibit, and areas for a wide range of activities that includes canoeing, kayaking, bird watching, swimming, fishing, surfing, shelling, and camping.

Things to Do

• Cool off in the summertime with a trip to the beach! You can swim in the Atlantic Ocean, surf in one of northeast Florida's best surfing areas, and relax on the sand.
• Go on a family hike or bike ride on one of the park's trails, which include interpretive panels, water fountains, and benches.
• Explore the wildlife! Stop by the Ranger Station to learn all about animals like bobcats, red foxes, and brown pelicans that live in the park, and pick up a Bird List before you head out to go bird watching.
• Try shelling, one of the most popular beach activities on Little Talbot Island - you can collect all kinds of exciting shells, including clams, oysters, periwinkles, and scallops. You can also pick up a handout from the Ranger Station to help identify all of the fascinating things you find.

• Make sure to visit the Ranger Station when you arrive to pick up trail maps and get recommendations.
• Bring along some food and have a picnic at one of the island's picnic areas, which include grills.
• Spend the weekend in the park by camping - the campground includes a laundry facility, bathrooms, a playground, and a campfire circle.
