Activity Overview

Welcome the season in full bloom at the Lan Su Chinese Garden in Portland. Chinese artisans made the botanical garden to closely resemble the Ming Dynasty gardens popularly seen in Suzhou, China, a sister city of Portland. The garden occupies one block in the Chinatown and serves as a quick escape from the busyness of the city. It is open all-year round, even during the winter season.

Things to Do

  • Take your kids for a tranquil day at the garden. Get your guide booklets at the entrance as it will be helpful in identifying the flowers and bushes growing on the garden path.
  • Have a cup at the teahouse in the garden where you can choose from different types of teas from China. You can pair your tea with dumplings and mooncakes.
  • Take your time in enjoying the ambiance and appreciating the view. You will find a lotus pond, a small waterfalls, and a bridge to complete your Chinese garden experience.
  • The garden is also a good location if you are looking for a place to meditate and spend a quiet time in.
  • Visit the gift shop just outside the garden where you can get souvenirs or a pack of tea to take home.
  • If you happen to visit in November, see different varieties of chrysanthemums displayed throughout the garden. Check out their events page for more activities within the year.
