Activity Overview

The Lake County Discovery Museum is dedicated to preserving and exhibiting the history and culture of Lake County, Illinois. A great variety of educational, cultural and historical exhibits are showcased. One of these exhibits is the Curt Teich Postcard Exhibit, officially the world's largest public collection of postcards and related materials which explores the significance of this unique form of communication in the early part of the 20th Century.

Things to Do

• In July of each year the museum hosts Civil War Days Illinois's largest Civil War re-enactment. The event sees re-enactors take on a whole range of characters from military infantry and artillery men to musicians, doctors and normal civilians. Along with this there are plenty of fun activities organised for children like contemporary arts and crafts and children's games that were played at the time.
• In September the Museum is home to the Farm Heritage Festival. Admission to this family friendly festival covers entrance to the museum and allows you and your family to enjoy fun activities like scarecrow making, demonstrations on tractor driving and threshing, a petting zoo and live music.
• You can enjoy the regularly changing exhibits that are housed within the museum. At the moment aside from their postcard exhibition you can also enjoy "The President's Photographer: 50 Years inside the Oval Office" which showcases photography from the American President's first official photographer in 1963 up to present day coverage of the most powerful man in the world.

• Adults can enter for half price on Tuesday's while children up to the age of 17 can enter for free on the same day. Children under the age of 3 can enter for free on any day. Before you go print off a $1 off coupon to save a little extra.
