Activity Overview

The Korean War Veterans Memorial is a national monument dedicated to those who served in the Korean War. It is located on the National Mall, a national park in Washington, D.C. that is home to many of the country's most important memorials and landmarks. The Korean War Veterans Memorial was first dedicated in 1995, and features a large Mural Wall, 19 steel statues, the United Nations Wall, and the Pool of Remembrance.

Things to Do

  • Examine the black granite Mural Wall, which features photographs of various members of the armed forces in the Korean War.
  • View the 19 beautiful stainless steel sculptures which depict a squad on patrol, with members from each branch of the armed forces.
  • Visit the Pool of Remembrance, where visitors are encouraged to reflect upon the costs of war as they view a granite wall with the message "Freedom Is Not Free" on it nearby.

Korean War Veterans Memorial Insider Tips

  • Once you've finished exploring the memorial, consider visiting other landmarks on the National Mall, such as the National World War II Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Washington Monument, or the Lincoln Memorial.
  • Bring along some food and have a picnic lunch in West Potomac Park by the beautiful Tidal Basin.
  • Consider visiting the memorial in the evening - some visitors feel that it has more of an impact if you view its statues at night.
