Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park -...

Share:

Activity Overview

The Klondlike Gold Rush in the late 1890s is one of the well-documented migrations of prospectors in the search for gold in the Yukon Territory. The park commemorates this event with the starting points and routes leading to Chilkoot and White Pass trails. The park is located nearest to Seattle and Skagway in Alaska. Free admission to the Seattle Unit.

Things to Do

  • Visit the Visitor's Center at the old site of the Cadillac Hotel, a departure point during the gold rush stampede. You can also get more information here if you want to visit other parts of the park in Skagway.
  • Watch a 20-minute film for the Gold Rush history and an introduction of what you are about to see in the small museum. Choose a character and find out how they did during the Gold Rush. There are exhibit markers and the museum provides reading materials so you can go around on your own or you could always ask the NPS staff for questions.
  • The exhibits are presented in a chronological order so you can follow and keep track of the events during the Gold Rush. More focus is given on Seattle's involvement and how the Gold Rush has changed the city. Kids can join the fun too with interactive displays and a kiddie quiz.
