Activity Overview

The Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield and National Park is a great mix of history and nature for your family and your little ones. It was here where the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain took place on June 27, 1864. William Tecumseh Sherman's Union army fought Joseph E. Johnston's Confederate army. Over 150,000 people participated in the battle and despite the Union forces being nearly double that of the Confederacy, the Confederacy won the battle.

Things to Do

• Do you and your family like hiking? Be sure to make your way along any of the hiking trails and head to the top of Kennesaw Mountain. Keep in mind that the walk itself is several miles and obviously not advised for the very young.
• Visit the Kolb Farm to discover more about the history of Kennesaw Mountain.
• Are you or your little ones keen ornithologists? There are plenty of wondrous species of birds to witness at the park so make sure you bring your binoculars!
• Pick up some educational materials on the history of the area in the park's bookstore. You can also pick up souvenirs of your visit and gifts in the visitor center.
