Don't miss the first mansion built in Rhode Island, constructed in 1768 by John Brown, a merchant, statesman, slave trader, and former owner and early benefactor of Brown University. Declared a national landmark in 1968, the home still has many of its 18th-century artwork and furnishings.
Described by John Quincy Adams as, "the most magnificent and elegant private mansion that I have ever seen on this continent," the estate was donated to the Rhode Island Historical Society in 1942, when it's original colonial decor was restored.

- Guided tours available at several times throughout the day.
- Free Museum parking available in a lot off Charlesfield Street.
- Open Friday and Saturday only, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., from December 1st through March 31st.
- Wheelchair accessible on only the first floor.
