Activity Overview

Jc Raulston Arboretum houses a variety of botanical gardens in an Arboretum, the Arboretum houses plants species gathered from around the world and generally works as a research and teaching resource. The 10-acre Arboretum is maintained by the North Carolina state university, the Arboretum is named after its founder J.C. Raulston. The Arboretum features many gardens including a rose garden, Japanese garden, winter garden, Asian garden, rooftop terrace and more. The Arboretum can be toured for free and is open year round.

Things to Do

  • You can tour the Arboretum at your own pace or take a guided tour, free of charge guided tours are available every Sunday.
  • Children can participate in many activities, there is Garden story time, afternoon adventures, and harvesting and cooking demos.
  • Visit the Bobby G. Wilder visitor center where you can pick up maps and brochures for self-guided tours.
  • There are many plants to see in the garden including maple, buckeye, magnolia, pines, oaks, cypress, and many annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees.
  • Summer garden camp is for the little explorers, kids can explore the gardens, find the bird's nests, and play treasure hunt.
  • Families can have a picnic in the gardens.
  • Visit the gift shop for gardening related merchandise.
