Activity Overview

The institute of Texan Cultures is a part of the University of Texas in Downtown San Antonio, Texas. The institute serves as a platform to understanding and learning all about the diversity of the Texan population and cultures. The institute features interactive exhibits and displays, educational programs, and events such as the Texas Folklife festival, it celebrates the diversity of the ethnicities that are part of the Texas population for many years. The institute also features a library that contains rare and historic books, millions of historical photos and manuscripts. The museum operates Monday through Sunday, while the library is open Monday through Wednesday.

Things to Do

• The museum features some very rare and interesting artifacts depicting the lifestyle of the immigrants who became part of the Texan culture decades ago. Learn the stories of the people from different parts of the globe.
• The museum showcases rotating exhibits, current exhibits include Faces of survival that explores hatred and intolerance, Los Tejanos that features 500 years of the Tejano culture in Texas.
• Sikhs: Legacy of the Punjab exhibit displays Sikh Art, artifacts, model of the Golden Temple and other collections.
• Guided tours are available, including a theater presentation.
• Many interactive learning activities for the kids, kids can learn about the cowboys culture, and the livelihood of the earliest Texans.
• The museum store features books on various cultures settled in Texas, apparel, gifts and souvenirs.
• Snacks are available from the museum store.
