Activity Overview
Learn about the country's rich history as told by the Pueblo Indians, Native American people in New Mexico. The exhibits display Pueblo Indian's culture, history, and art from the Pre-Columbian days to the present. The museum is owned and managed by the 19 Indian Pueblo's in New Mexico.
Things to Do
- Enter the building and start by getting a map of the museum. The exhibits show the history of the 19 Indian Pueblos. You will see oil paintings of the maps of the different pueblos accompanied with a description of each. Learn more about the Indian Pueblos' Migration, the community during the Classical Period, European Influences, and the Pueblo Revolt.
- See the pottery collection loaned to the museum by a private collector. Also watch a documentary about Native American art. There's also an interactive area where kids can learn about pottery making. A separate area is dedicated to the patron saints of each of of the 19 pueblos.
- The lower floor showcases contemporary art from the pueblos. Here you will also find a theater showing documentaries about Native American culture and films about well-known Pueblo Indians.
- Explore the museum grounds and check out the murals. Also watch traditional dance performances at the grounds. Check their events calendar for the schedule.
- End the trip with sumptuous servings of Native American food at the Pueblo Harvest Bakery and Cafe, open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Their best dishes include the Indian fry bread and the chili bean bowl.
