Activity Overview

Try building a house of cards with a friend or family member. This used to be a pretty standard activity when I was a child. I remember making many a card house both independently and also with a friend. This activity requires a lot of concentration, yet yields a great deal of excitement with each card that is successfully place.

For this activity, all you need is a deck of playing cards and a flat surface to work on. Lean cards against each other to make as sturdy of a structure as possible to avoid a big collapse of cards.

Materials Needed

  • A deck or two of cards

How to Play

  1. One player starts the game by attempting to make a small structure in the center of the table using no more than 4 playing cards.
  2. Players take turns adding up to 4 cards at a time per turn to start their own or add onto the existing structure.
  3. The player who knocks down the cards on his or her turn, cleans up the cards and starts the next card house.
