Homemade Fooseball Box Game

Share:

Activity Overview

Create your very own fooseball game out of a cardboard shoe box. My kids have always wanted a fooseball table, but it can take a lot of space and wasn't in the budget. We made a simple alternative that they school aged children really enjoyed making and playing with. We had all of the supplies already on hand and had a great time upcycling a plain old shoebox and turning it into something super fun.

Materials Needed

  • Scissors
  • Craft knife
  • Crayons or markers
  • A good sized shoe box
  • 2 wooden skewers
  • Duct tape
  • Paper
  • Glue stick
  • Plastic bottle caps
  • Ping Pong Ball
  • Green Paint
  • Paint Brush

How to Make It

  1. Use a craft knife to cut out two rectangular goals on each end of the shoe box. Set the twp pieces aside. You will need them later.
  2. Paint the inside bottom of the shoebox green paint and allow to dry. You can also use felt, but we wanted to make sure that our players had enough clearances to spin.
  3. Use the ball you are using to measure a minimum height for the skewers.the ball has to be able to easily pass under them.
  4. Then use the craft knife to cut a small x on each side of the box.
  5. Use your craft knife to poke a skewer sized hole in the middle of each plastic bottle cap.
  6. Poke the skewer through both sides of the box.
  7. Take your scissors and snip the sharp tip off the skewer.
  8. Slide a bottle cap onto each end of the skewer to keep the skewer from sliding out of the hole during the game.
  9. Draw two small characters for players.
  10. Use your glue stick to glue them onto the cardboard pieces that you set aside earlier.
  11. Cut the game character pieces out of the cardboard.
  12. Roll over a small piece of Duck Tape and adhere it to the back of the character and stick it to the skewer.
  13. Make certain that your character is big enough to whack the ball but not so big that it scrapes on the bottom of the box. You want to be able to rotate the characters on the skewer for your fooseball match.
