Activity Overview

Located on the sixth floor of the Dallas County Administration Building (formerly the Texas School Book Depository) from which Oswald fired those infamous shots, this historic exhibition chronicles the life, times, assassination and legacy of President John F. Kennedy.

The Museum collects materials related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and its aftermath, preserving and interpreting them so that people born after 1963 will better understand how that day changed history.

Things to Do

The Sixth Floor Museum holds in its collections approximately 45,000 items related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the local and global aftermath of his tragic death, the legacy of his presidency and the history and culture of the 1960s.

Visitors can view collections in exhibits, research appointments in our Reading Room and by search through the online database. There are old films and newspaper articles to see and a great overall view from alleged snipers position.

See a miniature scale model of the plaza/assassination and a replica of the space where Oswald was likely to have been sitting.

There are two interesting pixel/photomosaic gigantic photos of JFK and Jackie located on the 7th floor.

The building inside is almost exactly as it was in 1963 and you feel that you have actually stepped back in time.

As you look out the window there are 2 white X's in the street below representing where the shots hit President Kennedy.

Sixth Floor Museum Insider Tips

• Weekends and holidays can be very busy. To ensure the entry day and time of your choice, we recommend that you purchase tickets in advance ONLINE as we may sell out early.
• Discounts are available for AAA Members and Military.
• Photography and videotaping is not permitted on the sixth floor or exhibit galleries.
• Set aside 2-3 hours to view this museum. You may need a bit more time if the crowds are large.
