Activity Overview

For many people visiting Graceland is akin to a kind of rock 'n' roll pilgrimage. The home and place of death of arguably the biggest international star in the history of music Elvis Presley it was the very first location related to rock and roll to be designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2006. The superstar bought the property in 1957 early on in his career and it remained his home base for the following two decades up to the time of his death in 1977. Graceland has been open to public visits since 1982 and is one of the most popular private residences to visit in the entire United States.

Things to Do

• A tour of Graceland will lead around many of the large mansion's rooms. The Jungle Room, a favorite hangout spot for Elvis' friends and family, is among the most famous largely due to Elvis' often questionable taste in decor.
• Elsewhere you can marvel at the man's horde of platinum and gold records in the Trophy Building and explore his famous jumpsuit collection from the final part of his career in the Racquetball Building.
• The Meditation Garden is the most poignant stop along the tour. It is here that Elvis was laid to rest alongside his mother, father and grandmother. It is the ideal place to stop and pay your respects to a poor small town boy who grew up to become an icon.
