Glitter Mache' Shapes

Activity Overview

Create some fun and decorative shapes out of out paper mache. In this activity you can use unused wrapping paper strips, construction paper scraps, or even newspaper to make a colorful and unique shapes for decoration or additions to other crafts or games. This activity is great for school aged children and teens.

Simply by using a paper mache mixture and mixing in some glitter, you can make some dazzling shaped crafts. These shapes are formed when the mixture is pressed into various cookie cutters and can be used as accents or for toddlers to help them learn their shapes.

Materials Needed

  • 2 Bowls
  • spoon
  • 1 cup of school glue
  • 1 cup of water
  • Wrapping paper, tissue paper or construction paper
  • Plastic wrap
  • Cookie cutters
  • Glitter

How to Make It

  1. Place a sheet of plastic wrap over the edges of some cookie cutters. Cover the inside and the edges.
  2. Tear wrapping paper into strips.
  3. Mix one part glue to one part water and mix well in a bowl with a spoon.
  4. Soak the strips into the watery glue mixture for a few minutes.
  5. Stir some glitter into the bowl.
  6. Scoop the pieces out and squeeze the ball of wet paper gently.
  7. Press the mixture into the cookie cutter with your fingers.
  8. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours.
  9. After the paper mixture is dried completely, pull up on the edges of the plastic wrap that overhangs on the cookie cutter to lift the paper mache.
  10. Carefully pull back the layer of plastic wrap from the paper mache shape.
