The Gene Autry Museum locate in Los Angeles' Griffith Park, is dedicated to preserving and displaying the rich culure and history of the American West to the general public. The Museum is home to a huge collection of various important items that have helped to form this long and storied history. Aside from an impressive program of special and permanent exhibitions the Museum regularly plays host to different cultural and educational events.

Things to Do

• There are two ongoing exhibitions at the Autry in Griffith Park. Art of the West explores how different artists have chosen to repersent this part of the U.S throughout different eras and mediums. Western Frontiers: Stories of Fact and Fiction explores the full history of the West through the different firearms that have been used over the centuries to shape its destiny.
• If you enjoy what is on offer at the Griffith Park location you should head to the Autry's other showcase at the Mt. Washington Campus. Here they have an ongoing exhibtion of "pueblo pottery" from the 16th Century up to the present day.

• A Museum map will help you find what youu are looking for.
• There is free parking at the Museum.
• Entrance to the Museum is free for veterans and active military personnel, peace officers and park rangers. Everyone can enter for free on the second Tuesday of every month as well as on certain holiddays such as New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and President's Day.
• The Museum is closed on most Mondays as well as as on Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
