Activity Overview

The Galveston Island State Park covers an area of just over 2,000 acres. It provides visitors the opportunity to see and experience the habitat of a barrier island first hand. The Park also provides a space for people to bird watch, hike, swim, jog, bike and camp.

Things to Do

• You can fish at the Galveston Island State Park and it is a fun activity to take part in. The Park's Fishing Tip Sheet lays out their harvest rules as well as providing good information on fishing ethics and on how you can fish better.
• The Galveston Island State Park is a great place to camp. They have three campsites available to the general public whose prices range between $15 and $25 per night on top of your original entrance fee. Each of these campsites provide different facilities although depending on which one you choose you can expect to find electrical hook-us, picnic tables, restroom facilities and fire rings.
• An interesting self-guided tour you can easily take all the family on is the Driving Tour of Points of Interest at Galveston Island State Park. This drive will take you from the dunes of the beach to the Gulf of Mexico shoreline, up to the Observation Platform before finishing at the Karankawa Reef.

Galveston Island State Park Insider Tips

• The Park is open every day all year round.
• Children under the age of twelve are granted free admission.
• If you plan on camping out in the State Park be sure to come equipped with plenty of bug spray. The park can become full with mosquitos around dusk.
