Activity Overview

Make adorable pom pom clothespin caterpillars with this toddler friendly craft. Children of all ages can easily assemble these cute fuzzy creatures. They can be used as a clip for school papers or cute to display as a houseplant accessory to add some whimsy to your home.

Kids will likely be drawn to make more than just one because they are so quick and easy to make. They make cute gift tags too. Squeezing clothespins in general is fantastic for enhancing fine motor skills. My kids enjoyed clipping their cozy caterpillars on the baby gates in the doorways.

Materials Needed

  • Spring loaded clothespin
  • Several medium sized pom poms
  • googly eyes
  • Tacky glue or school glue

How to Make It

  1. Select a color scheme of pom poms. Choose one color or several colors depending on your liking.
  2. Squeeze a line of glue along the length of the clothespin.
  3. Stick each pom pom one after another along the length of the clothespin.
  4. Attach two googly eyes on the front pom pom on the part that opens up.
