Activity Overview
With its historic performances, interactive displays, "touch carts," lectures, and permanent and temporary exhibits, the Frazier Museum brings history to life in its attempt to educate and entertain the public.
Permanent exhibits include our country's oldest Civil War memorial known as the 32nd Indiana Infantry Monument or "Bloedner Monument," and the Toy Soldier Collection, consisting of more than 10,000 figurines - soldiers from around the world depicting such historical events as Queen Elizabeth II's coronation ceremony.
Temporary exhibits created at the museum have included the following: “WWII: 48 Local Stories That Changed the World,” "Pirates: Treasure & Treachery,” "Water Works: 150 Years of Louisville Water Company,” and more.
Things to Do
- Visit the Museum Store to find apparel, collectibles, jewelry, decorative items, DVDs and gift ideas for history aficionados.
- Attend a live performance put on by "historic interpreters," men and women who dress up as Abraham Lincoln, Joan of Arc, Annie Oakley, etc. and tell their stories of the past. There are 90 such performances that rotate daily on the Great Hall stage and the Tournament Ring.
- On the second Saturday of each month, attend a special historic presentation tailored for children.
Frazier History Museum Insider Tips
- Food and beverages can be purchased at the Museum Store. Outside food and drink are prohibited.
- Free coat and bag check are provided as well as complimentary baby strollers.
- Teachers from Kentucky and Indiana receive free admission.
- The museum closes at 2:00 p.m. when the Kentucky Derby and Thunder Over Louisville events take place.
