The Fox River Trolley Museum celebrates and preserves a time in American life when the electric trolley car was a cornerstone of transportation and daily life for the average person. You can learn about these charming carriages by actually riding on board of genuine electric trolleys which have been kept in good condition.
Things to Do
- The museum holds intermittent special events that are perfect for children through out the year. Don your costumes and hop on their Halloween Express to enjoy ghost stories deep in the Jon J. Duerr Forest Reserve.
- In late November and December enjoy their popular Polar Express where Chris Van Allsburg's book comes to life! In June their "Rails To Victory" remembers and celebrates the heroism of the Allied Forces of World War II.
- On any day you visit you can ride the AE&FRE #304, one of the last electric passenger cars to operate in the area. This car runs along the Museum's own section of the old Aurora, Elgin and Fox River Electirc Company Line.
- Once you are done with the trolley tour you can go hike or bike the many trails in and around the museum. Here you could potentially side a wide variety of animals including fox, deer, raccoon, possums and woodchucks.
