Activity Overview
The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History was originally a children's museum, but they changed their name in 1968 so that teens, parents, and adults without children could enjoy all of the educational exhibits and shows the museum has to offer. With a planetarium, IMAX Theater, and a gallery full of over 100,000 historical Southwest and Texan artifacts, every member of your family will find something to inspire them when they visit.
The Children's Museum is still a part of the museum, with an interactive exhibit that focuses on learning through play and is geared towards children 8 and younger. Climb, jump, and play through the display and even witness live lizards and reptiles in their natural habitats.
Things to Do
- DinoLab & DInoDig: Learn all about the fossils discovered in Texas and practice becoming a paleontologist with their interactive display - measure dinosaur bones, study them under a microscope, and find out how dinosaurs lived in their natural habitats
- Energy Blast: The history of all of Texas' energy resources are organized into this interactive display; discover natural gas in the 4D theater, use a vibroseis truck to discover seismic vibrations, and understand the uses of the large drills that made Texas so famous for oil
- Air Park: Ever wonder how planes fly? Learn here by crafting your own paper airplane and seeing if it can fly in the Airplane Launcher or float at the Air Tables
- Omni IMAX Theater: One of the first IMAX theaters in the Southwest and one of the largest, its 120-foot screen will put your family smack dab in the middle of the adventure; Series range from deep ocean exploration, Grand Canyon exploration, and thrill rides, including a Rocky Mountain Express train adventure and a Thrill Ride experience teaching the history of roller coasters
- Noble Planetarium: Both museum and planetarium, the displays include satellites, meteors, and large plasma screens showing real-time images of the sun; Laser Shows are hosted every weekend, and their rotating shows include educational exploration of the solar system, black holes, and the beginning of the telescope; Planetarium available for birthday parties

- The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is located on the museum block in Fort Worth, Texas. Nearby you will find the National Cowgirl Museum, The Fort Worth Botanical Gardens, and a few of Fort Worth's famous art museums, including the KImbell Art Museum and the Fort Worth Museum of Modern Art. Visiting all of these conveniently located museums together will make for a truly educational and fulfilling day.
- The Museum's Special Exhibits, which only visit for a few months out of the year, cost extra. If you plan on visiting the Myth Buster's Explosive Exhibit (where you can test common myths out yourself) or the Air Park, there will be an extra visiting fee. Both exhibits leave January, so don't miss out!
- The Museum now offers FREE PARKING in the nearby lots designated specifically for visitors to the surrounding museums.
