Activity Overview
Three main galleries exhibit contemporary artworks by emerging and established artists. Group shows, solo artist exhibitions and retrospectives are juried by our exhibitions' committee, which includes exhibiting artists, curators, arts instructors and gallerists.
Things to Do
The second-floor gallery is now dedicated to our Artist-in-Residence program named the Living Studio, now featuring soprano and visual artist Josefien Stoppelenburg.
Galleries are free and open to the public seven days a week. Docent led tours are available for individuals or groups, exhibition publications, exhibiting artists’ talks, interviews with curators and exhibition opening receptions at no charge to the public.
- The Evanston Art Center runs summer camps for different age groups ranging from 4 to 14 years of age. Each camp is designed to focus on the needs of that particular age group as they develop.
- A whole range of other classes are available for adults and youths in different areas such as digital media and photography, printmaking, drawing and painting, jewelry and metal sculpture.
- Every year through November and December the Center hosts a Winter Arts and Crafts Expo. This expo features original handmade works of ceramics, fiber, metal, glass, jewelry and much more besides.
Evanston Art Center Insider Tips
- Be aware that the Center will be moving to a new premises, 1717 Central Street in the Spring of 2015. The center's organizers promise that this move will allow them more freedom to offer a greater number of classes and provide space for more exhibits than their current location.
- The center is nearby the beautiful lakefront so make sure to take in this lovely part of Evanston during our trip too.
- It is difficult to get phone reception inside the building.
