Activity Overview
Create some Enchanted Goop to play with on a day where boredom is at its peak. Children of all ages will be fascinated by the consistency of this cornstarch mixture which quickly turns from a solid, to a liquid and back again. It is as if everything your touch simply liquifies.
This is a recipe for fun and hands on play. I recommend laying some newspapers out onto your work surface as kids explore this very interesting mixture. Encourage them to really get involved with their hands to delve into the mystery of this compound.
Materials Needed
- 1 1/2 cups of cornstarch
- 2/3 cup of water
- 8-10 drops of food coloring
- 2 Teaspoons of glitter
- Medium bowl
- Spoon
How to Make It
- Place water and food coloring in a medium bowl and stir well.
- Mix some glitter into your cornstarch.
- Sprinkle the entire amount of cornstarch over the top of the water and food coloring mixture and let it sit for 3-4 minutes.
- Pick up the mixture and form it into your hands.
- Open your hand over the bowl and observe what happens. It takes on the form of a solid and then back to a liquid in seconds.
