Activity Overview
The Emily Dickinson Museum in Amherst, Massachusetts consists of two historic houses with connections to famous 19th century poet Emily Dickinson. Visitors to the museum are able to take tours of The Homestead, the home where the poet lived most of her life, and The Evergreens, where her brother's family lived, while learning all about her fascinating life and works. In addition, visitors are welcome to explore the beautiful grounds and attend regular events such as poetry readings.
Things to Do
- Explore both houses by taking the 90-minute "Emily Dickinson's World" tour, which will take you through rooms such as parlors, libraries, and the poet's bedroom as you learn about her life and writing.
- If you're visiting with small children, consider taking the 45-minute "This Was a Poet" tour of The Homestead, which introduces visitors to her poetry and includes a participatory reading of a few of her poems.
- On a nice day, go on the "Grounds of Memory" audio tour of the Dickinson grounds, which discusses the poet's fascination with nature.
