Activity Overview
Elmhurst Park is a public park located in Queens, New York. The land was originally home to two large natural gas storage tanks which became known as a highway landmark due to the tendency of traffic to be come congested in the area. However, they were no longer needed in 2001, and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg headed a project to turn the area into a beautiful public space. Today, it features jogging paths, sculptures, large open spaces that can be used to play sports, and a popular playground that is perfect for children of all ages.
Things to Do
- Take your little one to the playground's designated area for toddlers - it has slides, climbing structures, bridges, and hanging bars for them to play on. The ground is also covered with a shock-absorbent rubber that makes playtime a bit safer!
- Push your kids on the swings - they'll love the feeling of flying through the air!
- Don't miss the steep slide! It's the favorite attraction of most older children due to the high speeds you can reach.
- Watch as your kids climb the big rock pile - once they reach the top they can take in beautiful views of the park using colorful binoculars.

- Bring along snacks if you're planning a long visit, since there aren't many shops or restaurants in the area.
- Explore the rest of the park - you can go for a walk, play frisbee or soccer in its open spaces, or enjoy a relaxing family picnic in the shade of one of its many trees.
