Activity Overview

The Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden was originally home to Edwin Percy Gamble son of the co-founder of Procter & Gamble, and his family. From the early 1900's Edwin and his sons and daughters lived here; his daughter Elizabeth spent the longest time on the estate and cultivated a beautiful Garden which became renowned in the community. She donated the entire grounds to the city of Palo Alto before her death and now the garden is in the hands of the Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden non-profit foundation. They have made this beautiful, peaceful garden available to all.

Things to Do

  • The Garden is home to a range of plant varieties and makes a lovely visit for horticulture enthusiasts and the general public alike. You can also enjoy the grand historic house and the Garden's Tea House. A lot of work has gone into the Garden to restore the formal gardens to the original plans while some extra features like a gazebo have been added.
  • Docent led tours of the Garden's buildings and plants are available from Monday to Friday. A minimum group of eight people is necessary for the tour to go ahead and the tour must be organized through the Garden's office at least four weeks in advance.
