Explore the beauty of nature and wildlife at the Effie Yeaw Nature center in Carmichael, California. The nature center is part of a 100-acre nature preserve that features self-guided walking trails, wildlife viewing area and a picnic area. The 100-acre of nature preserve has riparian and oak woodlands, meadows and aquatic habitats. The founder Effie Yeaw was a kindergarten teacher. The nature center and the hiking trails are open everyday from dawn to dusk. The nature center is closed on Mondays except some public holidays.
Things to Do
- Enjoy hiking with your family on the self-guided trails of the nature preserve, travel back in time by visiting native American Nisenan Maidu summer village.
- The replica summer village is complete with shelter, grinding rock, fire pit and shade shelter.
- The nature area has a wildlife viewing site, you can spot a variety of animals including deer, coyotes, turkeys, rabbits, hawks, owls, water fowls, and wood pecker.
- The nature center takes care of injured or orphaned animals, birds, reptiles and amphibians are on display in the discovery room. Meet owl, hawk, pond turtle, snakes and frogs.
- The nature center displays many native plants, the plants have plaques with description, also visit the butterfly garden.
- Enjoy a picnic in the picnic area near the building. Many events and nature walks are held at the nature center.
- The discovery shop offers books, games, toys, jewelry, and unique gifts.
