Activity Overview
The ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center, founded in 2003, is home to over 70 species of fish, amphibians, invertebrates and reptiles and will interest people of all ages with its interactive displays meant to "educate and delight people about the Ecology, Culture, History and Opportunity for stewardship of the Lake Champlain Basin."
Things to Do
- See a representative number of Lake Champlain fish in giant tanks and watch them being fed at certain times on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Learn from the Animal Care Staff about their diet, their life at the Science Center and how their kind does out in the Lake.
- Marvel at the numerous frog species found in the Science Center's Frogworld exhibit, including a South American blue poison dart frog with toxic skin, a Chubby Frog, a Vietnamese mossy frog, a tomato frog from Madagascar, and more.
- Don't miss the exhibit telling the legend of Champ, a 20-foot sea serpent supposedly spotted by a number of individuals in Lake Champlain. See images of Champ, hear stories from those who claim to have seen the beast, and listen to biologists' musings on the likelihood that Champ could have ever existed.
ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center Insider Tips
- The Center's cafe is open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day and uses locally-grown ingredients. One does not have to pay admission to the Science Center in order to eat there.
- After paying your admission price, you are allowed to leave and re-enter as often as you'd like up until 5:00 p.m.
- Up until March 2015, guests can park in the Science Center's lot for $5. Prices are expected to increase in April 2015.
- Vermont residents save $2 on admission.
