Donner memorial state park near Lake Tahoe, CA commemorates the Donner party immigrants of which nearly half of the immigrants couldn't survive the harsh winter storm of Sierra Nevada in 1847. The Emigrant Trail museum shares the tragic story of the immigrants that were struck by storm while on the way to California. The park boasts of many outdoor activities for the families like hiking, boating, fishing, skiing in the winters. A pioneer monument is located near the visitor center. The visitor center and the park are open daily.

  • The state park offers many out door activities in the Summer and skiing in the winters. There are many hiking trails in the park and maps are available at the trail museum.
  • Fishing can be done at the Donner lake and Donner creek, boats can be launched from the boating ramp at Donner lake.
  • Camping is open during the summer season, camp ground also has picnic tables and restrooms that can be used all year round.
  • The park's visitor center shares the history of the native Americans of the area, the Donner party and the natural history of the area.
  • Paddle boards and kayaks can be rented during the Summer season.
