What makes this aquarium a kid favorite for the past several generations? The conscientious design guarantees ages pre-K to ten will always have eye-level access to displays in each of the six Zones: Freshwater, Intertidal, Shore, Near Shore, Offshore and Stingray Bay.
This mid-sized home for thousands of animals will keep the entire family busy for at least a couple hours. Not to mention the small layout is appropriate for little ones that may get overwhelmed at a bigger aquarium.
The involved staff interacts with each visitor and introduces new aquatic friends. Be on the lookout for several desert fish breeds that are unfortunately extinct in the wild. Marine biologists here participate in breeding the endangered Texas blind salamander as well.
Things to See & Do
See sharks, piranhas, eels, jellyfish, seahorse, starfish, lobsters, crabs, octopus, angelfish, a white alligator and more up close at the aquarium.
Each day offers a different feeding demonstration.
The popular Stingray Bay allows visitors to feed the active cownose rays a seafood snack for a small fee.
The Coastal Touch Tank is where visitors can get up close and personal with crabs, lobsters, sea urchins, starfish and more.
Dallas Children's Aquarium Insider Tips
- Less crowded and much less expensive than the larger World Aquarium, which is located four miles away.
- Food is not available, but you may bring your own.
- Overnight sleepover parties are a fun way to have a night at the museum.
- Public transportation is available on DART – Dallas Area Rapid Transit – which has a close by stop at Fair Park Station.
- Free parking is available.
- The Fair Park location means that more entertainment is a short walk away.
