Activity Overview
Since the late 1800's trains have run along the lines that are now occupied by the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. Back then they were an important artery for the surrounding area, transporting coal and various other products and goods. Both passenger and freight trains stopped running here quite some time ago however and now the track is owned by the National Parks Service. They run trains that take passengers for tours of the beautiful Cuyahoga National Park.
Things to Do
- You can choose to start your tour from Rockside Station, Peninsula Depot or Akron Northside Station. The scenic tour around Cuyahoga National Park takes about two hours. You can also choose to add a layover in the town of Peninsula to take a look around and maybe do some shopping.
- If you are a beer or wine lover you can make your rail journey through Cuyahoga National Park that bit more special by booking either the Grape Escape wine tasting or Ales on Rails beer tasting excursion. Depending on which you choose you will either be given five wines or five beers to enjoy with chef prepared hors d'oeuvres.
- From mid-November until late December the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad becomes home to the Polar Express! Get on board in your pajamas to pick up Santa Claus from the North Pole. Sing Christmas carols with his elves and snack on cookies and hot cocoa.
