Activity Overview
Housed in a Connecticut revival Mansion, the Connecticut Historical Society Museum boasts a research center that holds over 250,000 unique Connecticut artifacts. The museum has the largest collection of costumes and textiles in all of New England. Although CHS does not really advertise it as such, their museum is extremely engaging and offers hands on learning exhibits for the whole family to enjoy.
The museum staff s very welcoming of children and you will see signs throughout the museum begging for you to touch and explore using all of your senses. With two permanent exhibits, the museum really uses great creativity to create the magic with new and exciting exhibits on a rotating basis.
Things to Do
- Explore the permanent exhibits "Making Connecticut" and "Inn and Tavern Signs".
- Each time your visit, you will be delighted by new rotating exhibits that can range anywhere from the deconstruction and reconstruction of an oak chair, to dressing up busts, to special crafts, the history of cleanliness, The Amistad, CT Basketball.

- If you visit the museum on the first Saturday of the months, admission is free!
- Be sure to check with your local library for availability of museum passes that you can check out on a first come first serve basis.
- Pack a picnic lunch or purchase a snack at the museum store. There is an outdoor patio for your convenience.
- This museum is handicapped and stroller friendly and has an elevator to take you to the higher floors of the museum.
