At its peak between 1880 and World War II, it became world-famous due to being the largest amusement area in the United States. While some of its historic amusement parks have closed in recent years, Coney Island continues to be one of the best family attractions in New York City. • Visit Coney Island's two historic rides that are designated New York City landmarks! Wonder Wheel, a Ferris wheel constructed in 1918, features some passenger cars that slide on rails, while the Cyclone wooden roller coaster boasts a thrilling 85-foot drop and speeds that reach 60 mph.
• If your family loves amusement park rides, then stop by Luna Park. It has thrill rides that will knock your socks off as well as more relaxed attractions for young children, including swing rides, spinning teacups, and a carousel.
• Enjoy a classic Coney Island attraction - the bumper cars! Older kids especially love driving around and crashing their cars into friends and family.
