Colorado State Capitol is home to Colorado General assembly, and the offices of the governor of Colorado. It is a beautiful state building in Denver Colorado, the famous golden dome of the building and the history exhibits make it a worth visiting place for everyone in Denver. The building is made of a rare stone, rose onyx, the rare stone was quarried in the town of Beulah, Colorado. The building is in use since 1894, and is a national historic landmark. Colorado state capitol offers free public tours Monday through Friday. Visit the house and the senate chambers May through January.

Things to Do

  • The Colorado state capitol has a neoclassical design that sets it apart from the other buildings, the golden dome is plated with gold, the gold plating replaced the original copper dome in 1908.
  • The gold plating was reapplied three times, the newest gold plating was applied in 1991 from gold mined in Italy.
  • Take free historical tours of the building, the guided tour takes you to the exhibit area that tells Colorado history and has activities for kids.
  • The tours last for 35-45 minutes and include a trip to the golden dome.
  • Current exhibit in the state capitol building is about minerals from the Colorado school of mines geology museum.
  • The capitol cafe serves snacks and drinks, as well as breakfast and lunch. A gift desk sells souvenirs, t shirts, books and ornaments.
