Activity Overview

Create adorable giraffes out of clothespins and paper and a few other supplies, One of my children loves everything about giraffes, so this craft really sparked his interest. Crafters of all ages will enjoy this fun and easy to make giraffe craft and you may already have all the supplies right at hand. This giraffe is also fun to display because he can stand up on his own two feet with its clothespin legs.

Materials Needed

  • Paint Brushes
  • Brown, yellow and black paint
  • 3 spring loaded clothespins
  • Yellow card stock
  • Scissors
  • Small yellow pom poms
  • Brown pipe cleaner
  • Tacky Glue
  • Googly eyes

How to Make It

  1. Cut a 4 inch oval out of yellow card stock.
  2. Use your index finger and your brown paint to stamp several finger prints around the surface of the yellow oval. Allow to dry. When dry, repeat this process on the other side of the yellow oval.
  3. Thoroughly paint the 3 clothespins with yellow paint and allow to dry.
  4. Use your index finger and brown paint again to create brown spots on all three of the dry yellow painted clothespins.
  5. Take a small amount of black paint and paint the tips of the part of the longer end of two clothespins. These will be the hooves on the legs.
  6. Allow for the paint to dry.
  7. Assemble your giraffe by clipping the two clothespin legs to the bottom of the oval while holding the oval on its side. You will actually be able to stand it up.
  8. Take your last clothespin and clip it on top of the oval angled out like a neck above the front leg.
  9. Take one of your yellow pom poms and glue it in between the long squeezable section of the clothespin.
  10. Snip two 1/2 inch sections off of the pipecleaner for the horns. Glue two small yellow pom poms to the two small pipecleaners and glue to the top of the head as shown above.
  11. Fold the pipecleaner up three times and glue it to the back of the clothespin neck.
