Activity Overview

Denver’s City Park is the largest and most notable park in the Denver area. The 330 acres was originally set aside as a park through a legislative bill in 1878 where the state of Colorado set aside 1280 acres of state land to be used as park lands.

Things to See & Do

Visit the Denver Zoo and the Museum of Nature and Science which are both within the park.

The park is also to home to two lakes, Ferril Lake and Duck Lake, as well as a boat house.

Thousands of visitors enjoy the park and the many activities including

  • Free summer concert series – Every Sunday evening all summer long from 6-8pm.
  • Boat rentals – standard paddle boats and some shaped like various water creatures

There are also tennis courts and walking paths to be enjoyed in the park.

Insider Tips

  • Beware of Goose droppings. It is slippery and can be hard to get off your shoes. Just be on the lookout and walk accordingly.
  • The trails are a great place to practice for your 5k runs you just signed up for then realized you have never ran 5k in your life. Great place to get ready because it is nice and flat.
  • Note of caution: Best to visit is during the daylight hours especially with children. There are some seedy nightlife establishments in the general area and some patrons may venture into the park after an evening out on the town.
  • Denver Parks are open from 5:00 am until 11:00 p.m. year round.
