Chore List for Kids

Chores are part of the course in a family. When you offer tasks to even the smallest of family members it teaches responsibility and care for their surroundings. We have gathered age appropriate chores to help you get started on a chore list for your house.

Chores for ages 3 & 4

This is the age that little ones love to help parents around the house. Provide some fun tools their size to seize this very eager developmental time. Always participate in the chores with this age. Monkey see, Monkey do!

  • Pick up clothes and put into a laundry basket
  • Pick up toys
  • Dusting furniture
  • Putting pillows on a couch
  • Match socks

Chores for ages 4 & 5

Preschoolers are really capable little people. They have much more strength and knowledge to build on and can help out quite a bit!

  • Emptying small bathroom trash cans
  • Straightening shoes in a mud room
  • Bringing small piles of laundry to their bedroom
  • Clean window sills
  • Pull weeds in the garden

Chores for ages 6 & 7

This is when many children are in Kindergarten and first grade. Kids this age can do a lot!

  • Make lunch and small snacks
  • Help fold clothes - fill washer and dryer with clothes
  • Vacuum
  • Clean floors with a mop and bucket of water
  • Clean mirrors
  • Deep clean dusting with spray and rag
  • Sweeping floors

Chores for 8 & up

Kids eight and up are capable of taking on larger chores at home. They can actually help you cook, do laundry and make their bed every day.

  • Clean the shower or tub
  • Do laundry
  • Take out the trash
  • Help cook
  • Rake leaves
  • Shovel snow
