Chalmette National Historical Park in New Orleans is located within the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and preserve, located just a few minutes from Downtown New Orleans, LA. The Chalmette National Historical Park holds a historic significance, the famous 1815 battle of New Orleans was fought against the British right there where the park is now located. The battle played an important role in securing New Orleans as part of the United States. The park is also home to the national cemetery. Things to Do
- The park holds an important piece of history, visit the Chalmette battlefield and the National Cemetery. There are cannons on site and an old plantation house.
- The visitor center displays exhibits and films depicting the history of the war of 1812. There is a Junior Rangers program for the kids.
- Visitors can enjoy the reenactment of the famous historical battle that is staged through out the year.
- Climb the Chalmette monument and view the battlefield from a viewing platform.
- A number of picnic tables are available in the park.
- The visitor center's store has books, historic items and children's books.
