Activity Overview

The Center for Civil and Human Rights in downtown Atlanta is focused on clearly drawing the line which connects the American Civil Rights Movement with ongoing civil rights movements throughout the world today. It is designed to teach visitors about their own human rights and about America's historic civil rights battles through the years. The Center houses four exhibition spaces that house permanent and rotating exhibitions that make clear how important the achievement of civil rights have been for various groups in the past and how the fight for human rights is still going on throughout the world.

Things to Do

• Rolls Down Like Water is the main exhibit relating the history of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. This exhibit mixes interactive displays with contemporary footage and photographs to paint a vivid portrait of this incredible period in history.
• Spark of Conviction: The Global Human Rights Movement covers current battles of human rights that are being fought throughout the world. The exhibit explains to visitors what human rights are and uses interactive technology to illustrate why they are essential to the quality of life of every person on Earth.

• There is a family guide online which is designed for children when they visit the center. It gives kids more information on the exhibits and presents them with questions to answer and games to play in order to deepen their understanding and enjoyment of all of the Center's exhibits.
• The Center is very near to both the Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coca Cola exhibit which you can also visit.
