Activity Overview

Centennial Beach is a public aquatic park located in the city of Naperville, Illinois, about an hours' drive west of Chicago. Families looking to escape the hot Midwestern summer love Centennial Beach since it provides a safe, fun place to cool off in the water.

Centennial Beach is different from your average aquatic park or swimming pool because it is actually an old quarry that is filled with 6.2 million gallons of water from nearby Lake Michigan that is tested and chlorinated in order to make it safe and clean for swimmers. In fact, it has actually been officially classified by the state government as a beach and not as a swimming pool!

Things to Do

  • There are plenty of ways to enjoy the water at Centennial Beach - young children can play in the Zero Depth area, adults can use the swim lanes, and teenagers can show off their impressive dives and jumps using the diving boards in the Deep Water area.
  • If you're more interested in sun and sand than swimming, check out the sand area! There's more than enough space for you to relax, little ones to build sandcastles, and older children to play beach volleyball.
  • Check out the many activities offered at Centennial Beach - they provide swimming and springboard diving lessons, fitness programs, water polo, and special needs nights. Visit the Aquatic Programs pages of their website for more information.

Centennial Beach Insider Tips

  • Unlike a normal beach, there are rules as to what types of water toys you can bring along for your kids to play with. Most small toys and soft balls are allowed, but tubes and noodles are not permitted. For additional information regarding what you can and cannot bring with you, visit the Centennial Beach Visitors Guide page.
  • It's only natural that you'll get hungry after swimming for a while. Head to the Centennial Grill for a chicken sandwich, a hot dog, a wrap, or some refreshing soft-serve ice cream.
  • If the free parking lot is full, don't worry! There are usually plenty of spaces to be found on streets within walking distance of Centennial Beach.
