Activity Overview

Before you put your recycling out, check out this great toy building craft that you can make easily with your unused cardboard. Children will enjoy hours of construction fun with this upcycled Cardboard Constructible craft. Leave them plain or you can even paint the cardboard for a more vibrant look.

Entertainment and learning have never been so fun with this inexpensive and user friendly homemade toy idea. Store them in a baggy and they make a great take and play toy as well. You won't have to worry about losing them because they can easily and inexpensively be made again.

Materials Needed

  • Sharp Scissors
  • Sturdy Cardboard

How to Make

  1. Cut your cardboard into 5 inch shapes. Squares and circles seemed to work best for us and were easiest to cut out, but you can also have success with octagons and triangles and more too.
  2. Next take each cardboard shape and cut a 1 1/2 inch slit straight toward the center of each side. For most shapes, you should have 4 slits that are even.
  3. Make as many as you would like.

To Play

  1. To build, slip the slits of different cardboard pieces into one another as shown in the photos above.
  2. Create amazing and creative three dimensional masterpieces as you slip one shape into another shape building on each other in any direction.
